To provide a complete picture of a product, we look at data across four categories. This approach ensures analysis is supported by consumer satisfaction, proven sales, cultural relevance, and professional vetting.

User Reviews: The Voice of Real Customers

This pillar is the primary measure of long-term satisfaction. We aggregate data from nearly 100 major retailers, including Sephora, Nordstrom, Amazon, and Ulta. To calculate this score, the algorithm analyzes two metrics: average star rating and total review volume. We prioritize consistency over perfection; a 4.8-star rating backed by 5,000 reviews carries more weight than a perfect 5-star rating from 10 people. This volume requirement is designed to prevent fluke winners and ensure the final rank reflects a broad consumer consensus rather than a small, biased sample size

Bestseller Status: Proof of Market Demand

This category tracks how consistently a product appears on bestseller lists. We identify sales volume and retailer tags to find products shoppers are buying and rebuying. When a product holds a No. 1 bestseller tag or remains at the top of its category, it signals the product delivers on its promises. Bestseller status indicates consumers are putting their money behind a product.

Industry Recognition: Professional Authority

This pillar measures authority by tracking how often products earn mentions, awards, and citations from reputable publications and industry experts. We source coverage from outlets that maintain rigorous testing standards and editorial independence. The more frequently a product is recognized by professionals who vet for quality through hands-on evaluation, the higher it scores.

Social Buzz: Current Relevance and Momentum

We monitor platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to identify products resonating with the shopping community. Rather than looking at static popularity, we evaluate the speed and scale at which a product gains traction. This ranges from viral staples to emerging products showing a surge in creator engagement. This pillar ensures rankings capture cultural momentum and authentic discovery as it happens.

How the Final Score Is Calculated

Once data is collected, products are scored and ranked by an algorithm. The final score is a weighted average of data points measured on a 1-to-5 scale. These metrics are aggregated into four primary categories: user reviews (which factors in both average rating and total volume), bestseller status, social buzz, and industry recognition.

Because the algorithm averages these five metrics, no single factor can carry a product to the top. A viral product with millions of views cannot rank at the top of our lists if it has poor user reviews or lacks expert endorsements. A bestseller with strong sales cannot dominate if consumers give it low ratings. A product must perform well across every category to earn its position. This ensures we only recommend products with both popularity and substance.

We maintain a strict line between our data and our revenue. Commercial partnerships never influence how a product is ranked or reviewed. The algorithm determines the best products based on merit alone, and affiliate links are only applied after the ranking is finalized. We do not accept payment for placement, and brands cannot buy their way onto our lists. Our recommendations remain independent, unbiased, and solely focused on helping you find the best products.
